      Why convert PNG to WebP?

PNG is perfect for graphics with transparency, but it’s lossless, so files are often far larger than they need to be on a website — especially photos or detailed illustrations saved as PNG. WebP supports the same transparency with much more efficient compression, which means faster pages and less bandwidth.

      Common uses:

      • Product photos with transparent backgrounds for online shops.
      • Logos, badges and illustrations on landing pages.
      • Screenshots in documentation and blog posts.
      • Sticker and icon sets for web apps.

      Getting the quality right

The Quality slider defaults to 82%, a good value for photographic content. Graphics with flat colors and sharp edges are more sensitive: if you see slight blurring around text or fine lines, convert again at 90–95%. The file will still usually be lighter than the PNG.

If a PNG is a photo without transparency, PNG to JPG is another option for places where WebP isn’t accepted, such as some email clients.

      Common problems

      • Text looks fuzzy in the WebP. Raise the quality to 90–95% for screenshots and graphics.
      • The WebP isn’t accepted by an app. Some desktop software and email clients still don’t read WebP. Keep the PNG for those, or use PNG to JPG when transparency isn’t needed.

      Private and fast

Your PNGs are converted by your browser’s built-in image engine on your device. There’s no upload, so large batches go quickly and unreleased designs stay private.

      • Need smaller dimensions as well? Resize image can resize and output WebP in one step.
      • Converting JPG photos for the same site? Use JPG to WebP.
      • Need the PNG back for editing? WebP to PNG restores a lossless copy.

      Questions & answers

Does PNG to WebP keep the transparent background?
Yes. WebP supports transparency, so transparent and semi-transparent areas of your PNG are preserved.
How much smaller will the WebP be?
It depends on the image. Photos saved as PNG often shrink dramatically; simple graphics and screenshots gain less but are usually still lighter. Compare the sizes shown after conversion.
      Which quality should I choose?
80–85% works well for photos. For logos, icons, UI screenshots and anything with text, use 90% or higher to keep edges crisp.
Can I use WebP everywhere instead of PNG?
On websites, yes — all current browsers support it. For documents, print or older software, keep the PNG.
      Are my images uploaded?
No. Your browser converts each image on your device; nothing is sent to a server.
